If Alex Morgan seems to be having a lot of fun teasing Brian Cox on the set of the Caddyshack-themed Michelob Extraordinarily campaign for Super Bowl LVII, it’s because he’s actually doing it. Alex joined Brian, Serena Williams, Jimmy Butler, Nneka Ogwumike, Tony Romo and Canelo Alvarez for a commercial that harkens back to the old comedy. The commercial even used Kenny Loggins’ “I’m Alright,” which puts the icing on the cake. “It was really fun,” Alex tells HollywoodLife in an EXCLUSIVE interview about shooting the commercial. “And it’s like every year there’s an anticipation of ‘what is this year’s Super Bowl commercial going to be? How far are they going to push it? What sports are they going to include? And who am I going to spend the day filming with?’ So it’s always a very fun experience.”

This year, the Michelob Extraordinarily commercial was a big hit for Alex. “There’s always that anticipation — of getting an email and saying, ‘Here’s the commercial, watch it, let us know what you think.’ Seeing that he was all about golf and making him younger—seeing where golf has come in the last two or three years and how much he’s grown,” says Morgan. “And the fact that I’ve personally taken up golf in the last two or three years—I’m not great yet, but I’m getting there,” he adds with a smile.

“So, that [look] was exciting for me, to put my skills to the test and to see that I’m not only getting into golf, but the rest of the country as well, now,” he continues. “So, it was really fun doing the commercial.”

Diversity is at the heart of Michelob’s Extraordinarily Super Bowl revenue. For the second year in a row, their ad campaign features equal numbers of female and male athletes. The ad — a continuation of Michelob Extraordinarily’s parent company Anheuser-Bush’s pledge to invest $100 million over 5 years to raise the profile of women’s sport — is also directed by Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison . “It’s one of the main reasons I started working with Michelob Ultra,” says Morgan. “They’re investing significant resources where it’s needed. I feel we’re very aligned on that front.”

“They usually like to have fun,” says Morgan of Michelob Extraordinarily. “They see where they can make the most impact, and to me it’s all art on the course? But golf is one of the sports where you can have a beer while you play during a day on the course. And I don’t mind doing that too.”

She can’t drink and win a world championship at the same time, so Alex will keep the Michelob Extraordinarily on ice if she is chosen to compete in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The 2024 version of the international soccer tournament kicks off in July and will take place in Australia and New Zealand. As of early February, the United States Women’s National Team roster hasn’t been formalized yet, but Alex’s name has been mentioned multiple times in lineup prediction posts.

Alex Morgan is excited to be a part of Michelob Ultra’s Super Bowl ad, where she got to shoot with Brian Cox, Serena Williams, Jimmy Butler, Nneka Ogwumike, Tony Romo, and Canelo Alvarez. The ad is a continuation of Michelob Ultra’s commitment to increasing visibility for women’s sports, and it features an equal number of male and female athletes. Directed by Rachel Morrison, the ad celebrates diversity and inclusivity in sports.

Alex is also excited about the upcoming 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand. While she enjoys having a beer on the golf course, she knows that she can’t drink and win a world championship at the same time. She’s looking forward to getting back to the top level of competition and having a chance to become a world champion once again.

“I am doing everything in my power to earn a spot on the roster,” she affirmed. She further emphasized that the USWNT is leaving no stone unturned to prepare themselves and be a top contender.

Even after securing back-to-back International Cups in 2015 and 2019, one might have assumed that the drive would have waned and Alex would take it easy in 2023. But that’s not the case. “The drive is always there,” she stated. “We hold ourselves accountable, and the rest of the world holds us to a high standard.”

Morgan pointed out that winning the previous two International Cups doesn’t mean that they will defend it successfully as it’s a completely different team, with the exception of herself and a few others. The team comprises of Alex, the captain Becky Sauerbrunn, Crystal Dunn, Sofia Huerta, Kristie Mewis, Megan Rapinoe, and goalkeepers Alyssa Naeher and Adrianna Franch, who are the only women on the team above the age of 30 selected for the 2023 SheBelieves Cup. The remaining 15 players are all in their twenties.

According to Morgan, many of the current players were still very young when the team won 11 years ago. This means that the team has changed significantly. However, the team still approaches every international tournament with the same mindset. “With every World Cup, we treat it like it’s our first time,” she explained. “Although our program has a rich history of success, each tournament is unique because it involves a different team.”

Morgan added that the team’s mentality has remained the same over the years, which is the desire to be the best, compete at the highest level, and train every day to create an environment that fosters success. “We hold ourselves to the highest standard,” she said.

It’s certainly something worth celebrating. So when you see Alex and the rest of the team during Super Bowl LVII – and again in Super Bowl LVIII when Morgan (most likely) returns for Michelob Ultra’s campaign in 2024 – raise your glass.

With the 2022 campaign having a vibe reminiscent of “The Big Lebowski,” and this year’s campaign reminiscent of “Caddyshack,” one can only wonder if next year’s campaign will pay homage to Alex’s hometown of San Dimas by parodying “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” When asked about it, Alex laughed and said, “I think you just gave them their next campaign idea.” So, is she more of a Bill or a Ted? “Hmm,” she pondered, “I would say I’m more like Ted.”

“Excellent!”
